February is the month dedicated to love and is a reminder to all of us at Komen Ozark that at the heart of our mission is YOU!  We love our volunteers, grantees, donors, race participants and survivors! Without your support we could not meet our mission to save lives and end breast cancer forever.

This newsletter showcases all the wonderful supporters of Susan G. Komen Ozark so please take time to read the great stories of volunteers, grantees and others who devote their time to raise money in support of our mission.  We love the opportunity to tell you thank you for all you do!

Remember, the 17th Annual Race for the Cure is Saturday, April 25 at Pinnacle Hills Promenade Mall and is one of the best ways to support our mission.  Please participate, advocate and donate for the 1 in 8! Breast Health Patient Navigation:  a service you help us provide. 

Breast Health Patient Navigation

“I was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time earlier this year.  I was overwhelmed by the diagnosis.  My breast health navigator put me at ease and made me feel comfortable right away.  She talked at great length with my husband and me about cancer.  She encouraged questions and calmed my fears."

Komen Ozark relies on grantees and community partnerships to work towards our mission of ending breast cancer forever.  Breast Health Navigators are so important to the mission and are a funding priority of the affiliate.

Komen Ozark currently funds four Breast Health Nurse Navigators.  The navigators are located at:
•    Madison County Health Coalition
•    Mercy Breast Center
•    Skaggs Foundation
•    Washington Regional Cancer Support Home

The role of a Nurse Navigator is to:
•    Provide education and support for the patient and family
•    Assess and identify high-risk patients (physical, psychological and social), identify any healthcare barriers and provide early triage and intervention
•    Provide assistance with a multidisciplinary care team
•    Enhance patient quality of life, sense of autonomy and self-determination for managing her own health
•    Promote an interactive relationship that keeps communications open among patient, family nurse and physicians
•    Provide early intervention and appropriate access to healthcare services
•    Manage navigation services throughout a breast cancer patient’s journey

J.B. Hunt has been a longtime supporter of Komen Ozark and we couldn’t be more thankful.  From supporting luncheons to Race for the Cure,   J.B. Hunt has been there for Komen Ozark every step of the way. 

If you have ever attended Race for the Cure and wondered how we manage get all those samples to the booths at race – the answer is J.B. Hunt.  With their generous sponsorship, J.B. Hunt manages to store, transport, and make sure set up and logistics go smoothly on race day – all with a smile on their face.  To show their true commitment to Komen and fighting breast cancer, they even painted their fork lift pink! Now that is showing the love.

At Susan G. Komen we love our volunteers!   Thank you to all our volunteers who give so generously of their time, talent and energy because they believe in the mission to save lives and end breast cancer forever.
 
Our volunteers help the Ozark Affiliate with fundraising and special events, provide community education at health fairs, assist the Komen office with projects, and serve on one of our Committees or on the Board of Directors.   With the support and dedication of our volunteers Komen Ozark was able to raise and grant $670,433 into our local community to help women who are going through breast cancer.
