Welcome to My Personal Page

Several years ago, we started a Roadhogs Team for Komen Race For The Cure, with the view that it was one way members of our organization could reach out and help support the community in which the University of Arkansas main campus is located.  It seemed like a good idea then, and it does now.

Then, about 5 years ago, our daughter-in-law, Amanda, who was 32 years old at the time, was diagnosed with breast cancer. That's when it became personal!  She subsequently underwent surgery for a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and reconstructive surgery.  I am thankful to report that she is now a cancer survivor, and is doing well, but having that experience occur to someone so close, highlighted how important the Komen Race For The Cure is.

We also have two daughters and three granddaughters.  I want to see continued advancement in the fight against breast cancer and ultimately the eradication of this disease for their sakes as well.  Yes, it became more personal when Amanda was diagnosed......more real.

My goal this year is to raise $1,000.  Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.

Your support helps us get one step closer to a world without breast cancer. 75 percent of the money raised through the Race stays in the community to fund local breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs. The remaining 25 percent supports groundbreaking breast cancer research.

 We Race Because…

  • One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
  • Because every minute, somewhere in the world, someone dies from breast cancer.
  • And because, breast cancer knows no boundaries- be it age, gender, socio-economic status or geographic location.
  • We continue to Race because at the current rate, 13 million breast cancer deaths around the world will occur in the next 25 years.

In 1980, the 5-year relative survival rate for women diagnosed with early stage breast cancer (cancer confined to the breast) was about 74 percent. Today, that number is 99 percent!  Komen has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer - transforming how the world talks about and treats this disease and helping to turn millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors.  This progress was made with your continued support and together we can reach our vision of a world without breast cancer.

Together, we are fueling the best science, boldest community and biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer. Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?
